Necklace with children's names: how many to include?

For the name necklaces in our store, the number of first names ranges from one to nine, with the pendant's shape determining the limit. The intertwined heart is limited to four, the tree of life and infinity to six, the customizable necklace to seven, the puzzle to eight, and the family tree of life to nine. You know which names you want to include. The question is how the jewelry changes as the list grows.

The short answer: for up to three first names, choose based on the shape, ensuring the model accommodates your desired number (the puzzle starts at two, the 7-name necklace is only available with 2, 4, 6, or 7 names). For four to six names, observe how the pendant evolves and which chain is recommended on the product page. For seven or more names, the paper test described below becomes essential; for fewer names, it's still useful as soon as the pendant grows or the names intertwine.

The photos on the product pages are for illustrative purposes only: slight variations in appearance or dimensions may occur. Most importantly, a photo shows the pendant up close; once worn, the necklace is viewed from a greater distance.

Each added first name modifies the pendant

The product pages describe how each model accommodates an additional first name. The puzzle lengthens. The infinity widens starting from four names. The tree of life, with up to 6 names, fits within a circle the size of a coin: the design becomes denser as more names are added. On the family tree of life, the pendant becomes denser beyond six names.

The length of the first names also matters. Each model sets a maximum number of characters per first name: only 10 for the family tree of life, 15 for the other name models mentioned here (the heart pendant necklace, however, only accepts one initial per heart). Accents, apostrophes, and hyphens are accepted. For a compound first name, it's the total length that counts: it occupies only one slot, but each letter and the hyphen are included in the count. Please check the limit before entering it.

Check readability while there's still time

To assess readability, you first need the actual size of the pendant. For the puzzle and infinity, it depends on the number of first names. No product page indicates the pendant's dimensions: please ask customer service before ordering. They will respond within 24 business hours: ask your question before ordering, or right after, while modifications are still free.

Then, trace the pendant's shape in actual size with a pencil on a piece of paper. Write the first names, respecting the model's arrangement: one branch or piece each, along the outline for infinity, around the edge for the intertwined heart, in a tight block for the 7-name necklace. Ask someone to hold the paper against their chest, or attach it to a hanging garment, and step back to a conversational distance. If you can read each first name effortlessly, the pendant's size is not an issue. For models where names overlap or intertwine, actual reading will be slightly more difficult than on your paper: allow for some margin. The 7-name necklace, for example, is described as legible up close.

If the model turns out to be too dense once received, you have 90 days to return it, engraving included. However, it's still better to choose the right number of first names from the start.

You have 24 hours after validation to correct or cancel without charge; after that, the jewelry is manufactured with the entered first names, letter for letter. If you spot an error after this period, the jewelry can still be remade at 50% of the original price. Details can be found in the return and refund policy.

For Mother's Day, the lead time is calculated as follows: 48 hours for engraving, shipping within 3 days, then approximately one week for transport: allow 10 to 15 days in total, sometimes more during holiday periods. Three weeks in advance is a minimum.

How many first names depending on the necklace type

Models that distribute the first names give each one its own place. On the tree of life necklace up to 6 first names, each first name occupies its own branch. The family tree of life necklace follows the same logic for up to nine first names. The puzzle necklace, which goes up to eight first names, requires at least two: one per piece, and the pieces interlock.

Models that intertwine the first names merge them into a single shape. On the intertwined heart necklace, the first names themselves form the outline of the heart by intertwining: remove a name and the shape changes. On the infinity necklace up to 6 first names, the first names follow the curve of the symbol and wrap around each other.

The customizable necklace up to 7 first names belongs to this second family: its description indicates that the names slightly overlap and form a dense block, readable up close. It can be ordered with 2, 4, 6, or 7 first names, but not with 1, 3, or 5.

When first names are long or hyphenated, initials are another option: a single letter per heart, with no first name length limit to manage. The personalized heart pendant necklace holds one to six hearts, in the order you specify. The pendants remain small and slightly overlap when there are many. For seven or more first names, three models remain possible: the 7 first names necklace, the puzzle, and the family tree of life. In the necklace collection, each multi-first name model indicates its maximum number of first names: this is the first filter.

Chain length follows the model

On most product pages, 40 and 45 cm fall on the collarbone, 50 cm and more fall on the bust. When the pendant grows, the product pages recommend a longer chain: 50 or 60 cm for four or more first names for the infinity, 50 or 55 cm for six or more for the 7 first names necklace, 50 or 55 cm for more than six for the family tree of life. On the heart pendant, 50 cm allows more space for the hearts when there are many.

Therefore, choose the length after the model, never the other way around. Some models have a fixed chain (45 cm with beads for the intertwined heart, 50 cm for the puzzle). And keep short lengths for small series of first names, as specified on the 7 first names necklace product page for 35 and 40 cm. The finish can be chosen between gold, rose gold, and stainless steel depending on the model; the intertwined heart, the heart pendant, and the handwritten first name necklace are only available in gold or stainless steel.

The top worn also matters

On a busy print, first names are less legible. Do the paper test on a plain top that the person often wears, whether it's you or the person you're giving it to.
